The bigger problem is that its emerging tech, and unless Musk builds a network, its going to remain emerging tech until public interest fades in a century or so.
The idea is sound: Vacuum at 0.1 or whatever is feasible means to lower air resistance.
Lower air resistance means more speed.
Enough speed means it can possibly out-compete aviation. Something train lines already do in Japan, Europa and China due size + easy of use + being closer to auxiliary transport on arrival
The problem is that its competing with 2 different techs that is established, and each mile of railroad is silly expensive.
