The DEA several times reaches drug dealers that are friends of the CIA and the darker sides of the US government and global networks and the state department have to step in because otherwise the DEA would take them down.
Thats why the DEA gets treated so harshly by the media and pop culture. Because they're pretty much the only people who take the drug war seriously in the US government. Colômbia, China, Philippines and the DEA in Bolívia during Operation Snowcap are the only people who have taken fighting drugs seriously in this planet. If everybody else did the same, a lot of banks in Switzerland, big multinational corporations, international organizations and world leaders would find themselves in trouble.
