>>1590036>Are the multi-level trains we have in Sydney efficient in terms of moving people?Yes and no. Compared to single deck trains they hold more passengers but they cannot be run as frequently due to fewer doors per car to get people on and off. Overall maximum passengers per hour tends to be similar but double deck trains are more comfortable since far more of those passengers will have a place to sit instead of having to stand all the time. So the double deckers excel for medium distance suburban and shorter intercity travel. Single deckers excel for inner city travel where you wouldn't mind standing throughout the trip.
>They certainly aren't frequent. They can be. Last I checked the maximum feasible trains per hour in Sydney was 20, maybe 24 if you push it. If they aren't hitting that on the busiest lines in peak times then they're mismanaging the network. As usual.
>And why don't we have a high-speed rail line running down the East coast of AustraliaBecause Australian governments are absolutely terrible at rail in general and around half our politicians actively sabotage any major infrastructure projects. Also even when proposals are made everyone ignores maglev which is more or less essential for getting reasonable travel times and being able to include Wollongong.
