Offset/staggered T-intersection is a standard design on rural or any priority junction. RHD left-right is preferred to let vehicles cross than turn naturally without holding a left turn lane on the major road.
Urban signalized ones are good for heavy turning traffic.
Both have fewer potential vehicle conflict points than a four-way intersection obviously.
