The biggest problem of public transit is the unreliability, and the mere info of "your bus/train is coming on time/x minutes late" already helps a lot these days. That's genuinely the primary reason I wouldn't want to return to the 90s. I suppose especially boomers aren't even aware of that major shift.
Add cheap, reliable, on-demand, last-mile options on top of that, and that's your winning team.
