I've got Magura hydraulic rim brakes on my holiday bike.
I don't like m. I've had to change both handlebar pistons already, because they're not made of metal, but weak plastic. Now I bought an old pair of pistons that are made of metal, haven't had problems yet. Although I have the idea that problems mostly occur when traveling through unpaved desert roads, and that's been some time ago (I live in the Netherlands).
For my use of the bike, I don't like hydraulic rim-brakes. Because of:
>>1585628Maybe I should have gone for diskbrakes, I don't know how they do in overheating?
rimbrakes tend to overheat, potentially damaging your tires on long descends with 50kg packed to my bike.
On the other hand, diskbrakes would probably become close to red hot when they absorb the same energy that makes my rims reach 100+centigrade. I don't want my diskbrakes to melt my pannier bags.
>>1584540Times change, but not everything gets better. If you want easy maintenance and reliability, V-brakes are superior to new Magura rim-brakes.
Cheaper and easier to fix. And both of them stop my wheel when I pull the lever.
>>1584542It doesn't make much of a difference for your braking power. Both rim/diskbrakes should be able to easily block your wheel under any conditions. If they don't: don't get on the bike and fix it.
