Its very clear people would rather be in a car that they can go whenever they want, wherever they want, and with whoever they want. You get to go to places directly, You get to carry all sorts of things with you, you can go on roadtrips. There are so many reasons why Americans love their cars and trying to force slow outdated modes of transport wont work. There is a reason that even in the cities with the heaviest public transit usage cars still make up 80-90% of the trips people take.
