my instinct is that the small chance of being murdered on a train is maybe worse because that's being -done to you- by a person, but when i really think about it, it's the outcome of being hurt and the likelihood of it happening which matters more.
I think we also are conditioned to accept the horrific dangers of cars as simply commonplace and acceptable also. Like if you think of a self driving car killing one person there would be public outrage, it would be irellevant if they were overall safer than human drivers or not, we just really are ok with the idea of killing ourselves/each other on the road but most other deaths including that very similiar one are unacceptable. It's an odd phenomena.
