I like trains because they evoke the 'togetherness' of travel - lots of people, wrapped-up in their own little universes, nevertheless taking a single journey to a given destination at a given time.

What do you like about trains?

Same can be said about coaches, planes and ferries.

Chinese have have similar concept. Of pleasant big crowd. When they rub backs against each other and their minds go like "look how many of us, this is power and success! I among millions of the same, pleasure!" Chinese love overcrowded spaces like markets or malls.

If properly maintained (the one here isn't), it never stops, cuts through the city and doesn't suffer traffic congestion.
It's also much more comfortable when it isn't overcrowded.
It represents a society that can think long-term and cares about real daily problems, this is the reason they are mostly found on the first world.

Nah, it's pretty easy. Pic related, from the top, and first areal photograph to come out of Google Pictures from my capitol city. Well of suburb, middle suburb, and less attractive suburb, closer to a industrial area an latter, harbor. I could say plenty of bad things for the latter - but i rather live there, than in the labyrinth that is the American motorist dream of suburbia.

Damn European suburbs look cool. We only have places like that around the Northeast and Chicago.
I'm hoping some of our new zoning changes (like allowing ADUs and duplexes) will get us to build some nice neighborhoods like that.
