Pros: I can see are low construction costs and disruptions. Things NIMBYs like to complain about.

Cons: Probably longevity of battery life during service (unless there is a way to improve it).

Buses don't have the same carrying capacity as a full-fledge train.

BRT is still workable in areas with moderate populations and job concentrations. I'm thinking something like this could be more useful in larger areas that need some kind of street car system but lack the funding or political will to do so.

Fair point on the driver tho.

Yes, anon. That's exactly how I use the word. Very observant of you, thank you and hence why I propose this as compromise between our warring factions.

You get: less disruptive construction at lower costs, plus potentially less political demonization by the superior YIMBY race.
We get: our "glorified buses" to beat the traffic.

The dotted lines are most definitely a part of it, but just a part. They probably have a handful of other failsafes. And as your picture says, there's plenty of ways of making a bus crash already, this shouldn't change things really.

A bus-light-rail hybrid like that has neither the capacity or speed of a rail based system nor the street-level flexibility of a bus. It has to act like a train while getting the full design and favorable environment usually afforded a train.

Just use proven technology that more than one manufacturer sells or you'll end up with a frankensystem that cripples the overall network budget with high costs because it's basically all custom shit

Yep, the tech is nearly 2 decades old. A handful of cities also use optically guided buses: Nîmes (only near stops), and formerly Las Vegas (only near some stops). Bologna and Castellón de la Plana integrated the tech into trolley buses, which has less of an environmental impact than using batteries. Eindhoven also has a similar guided bus except it uses magnetic guidance.

These "trackless trams" are nothing special, just Chinese-developed optically guided buses. The Chinese have also developed their own suspended railway, but powered by batteries. Probably the only public transport that the Chinese invented is the straddle bus, but that flopped.

Nope, what you're talking about are guided tramways (GLT & Translohr), another variation of guided buses. Rouen has optically guided buses, not guided tramways.

An optically guided bus (or even trolleybus) running part or all of its route on a dedicated busway seems like a viable alternative to light rail.
