Fellow Americans, do any of you carry firearms while riding your bicycle? In light of the recent cougar attacks on mountain bikers, I’ve been considering packing a small Ruger LCR or something

No but I've ridden to where I wanted to go shooting with a gun before. So technically yes.
I remember last time this was asked some dude was trying to claim a 9mm handgun wouldn't go through a pitbulls skull. He said carry a 12 gauge minimum

I've thought about it but decided against it. Not practical. Pedaling with a holster sucks. Strapping it to the bike is amateur hour since your firearm needs to be in you control and if you crash or lose control of the bike you just lost control of the gun too. Besides I've never considered carrying a gun to fight off animals, it's other people the gun is for. Animals usually don't fuck with mountain bikers we are loud, stick to a specific area, and relatively large and fast moving compared to most woods creatures. Just get a trail bell for the kitties. They are really only dangerous when startled.

I carry everywhere I go so yes I do. I carry a kahr cw9 inside the waistband at 3:00 in a kydex holster. Any other questions?

I carry either a G19 for city rides or a .22 revolver for mountain biking. My only real concern in the woods here are snakes though and I carry snake shot for that, but also a couple of hollow points loaded too in case a Coyote feels frisky.

Hill People Gear makes some good options and I run their belt pack for both. I have the chest rig but it feels a little to larpy for me

My first bikepacking trip I had a loaded .38 revolver in the side pocket of my handlebar feed bag, in case of bears. Made for quite a fright when I hit some ice and ate shit and it slid across the road. (Also yes I know, a .38 won’t stop a bear, but it’s better that having nothing)
