It is a known fact that hangar rash is the main culprit of CF damages, during, taking them from and putting to storage and transporting.
The fact is there is no measured difference between CF and alloy frames (given both are good quality) but while a simple scuff means nothing on a metal frame the CF can have delamination and strand breaking over time.
CF is too fussy, too vulnerable and too expensive, not to mention harmful for the environment during manufacture and after disposal while alloy is cheap, just as strong, much more resilient and can be recycled infinitely.
CF is bad for you.

Better tire clearance, more durable, better braking in most cases (especially compared to cantilevers) and you don't wear down your rim.

I set the goalposts here. I was asked what peak value is and I said claris or sora. Let me clarify. Full Claris or Sora. And often complete 105 isn't specced too

As for your later point about brake shoes. Ok so there's $20 extra cost in your first brake service? Big deal. Each 11 speed chain is $10-$20+ more expensive than an 8/9 speed chain. Cassettes doubly so. The cost of servicing 105 is higher than Claris or Sora. So that 1 time cost of upgrading to cartridge brake pads is far eclipsed by other service costs. It's a non-issue. Raising it is actually a point against you.

if you're a novice or your budget is very tight, sure a claris or sora bike is "decent", it's not walmart trash
if you're an intermediate or experienced cyclist and you have at least an average first world country income it's hard to make a case for an entry level bike. especially if you're going for a mid range or high end frame with nicer wheels then 105 should be your minimum, you could even consider ultegra

Claris/Sora equivelants for mtb would be Altus/Acera/Alivio which ARE themselves very good. It's not necessarily peak value depending on how technical and demanding your riding is, but actually, for many uses, that tier of mtb parts are also peak value.

I feel like, if you're defining a bike by its groupset alone, there isn't much reason to go above sora unless you are an enthuthiast/athelete. The performance is similar, difference mainly being amount of gears and weight.

But if you are comparing entry level bikes, there are a lot of corner cuttings on lower tier bikes that make the decision harder.

Either way, if you think 105 is a few hundred dollars better in quality than tiagra or sora, you're a dummy. It is better, but hardly worth it.

even on the cheapest frameset out of those examples you would probably put 105 or ultegra and carbon wheels or fancy alloy wheels on it. for that tier of bike, claris or sora would not represent "peak value". the extra money spent on a 105 groupset would not be a huge percentage of the overall cost of the bike and the various accessories that a fully equipped cyclist would have. claris and sora make sense for babby's first entry level road bike and for fixing up an older bike if it needs a new crankset or something like that. but an intermediate road cyclist would be looking for a substantial upgrade from what they already have in which case 105 and ultegra make a lot of sense.

Really? I missed this entirely, got into MTB in '94 when I was a wee lad, have seen my friends go with XT "automatic" levers then getting telescope forks while I rode my rigid steel donkey with 3x6 grip shifters 'til 2006 when it practically fell apart, riding hard for 12 years does that. But never come across that XTR brake lever shifter design.
Now I use a basic road/gravel bike with STI shifters and they feel natural. Maybe because the levers are vertical and shifting sideways. Can see the problem when the bumps and forces come up while holding the horizontal lever that shifts upwards.

It's also irritating having more expensive, harder to get, non-standard service parts and tools, which makes used campy bikes prohibitively expensive.

Campy is really the domain of 'money is no object' classy richfags, not many of whom post on /n/. And hell you really do have to be spending tens of thousands of dollars on a bike before it begins to make sense.

I would say that piece of spec is significant. $750 significant? No.

Both the 2's blue colour options are also by far the best colour options so i'd go for it for that reason.
