You're probably much faster than you think. You need long stretches of uninterrupted road to maintain high average speeds. Trying to maintain 20mph on a shitty MUP with obstacles and turns is going to really slow you down. I always considered myself as someone who averaged around 12mph-13mph but once I found a nice road to actually ride I was easily able to maintain 17mph

Crossing Boyd’s Gap in WV is like 15 mi, front to back, and that’s a FUCKIN RIDE
4mi gravel ascent at 9% grade, then an 11% 3.5 mi descent, then reverse it and go back

Unless you’re doing 11 mi of I-15 in Las Vegas, in which case, that’s barely a warmup
