Can anyone please explain to me the meaning of what he just commented about the gear ratios? I know that high gear ratio gives you better acceleration and lower ratio gives more top speed (I'm aware that I'm oversimplifying it A LOT, and probably got them backwards too).

What I don't understand is the significance of taking corners on 1st rather than second. Can anyone please help me out in understanding this?
