Civilian airline is done, baked. From 9-11 thru the 2008 crisis to today's pandemic, plenty of pilots have lost their jobs and their investment along with their future. As a career it's not worth anymore, as a hobby I suggest yes fly VFR with two or four seater. I suggest a high wing craft like a C-150 or 172 so you have full view over the landscape.

What a doomer. Just go fly cargo, those jobs are not going away anytime soon. Airline jobs are cyclical they will come back eventually. Sure you may have to fly in the Alaskan bush or do CFI work for awhile until you get picked up by a regional but it happens. Its not a bad career path, its just anyone thinking about starting rn is jumping into a tough labour market.
