>>1613433clean, lubricate and protect is a weird meme
solvents and lubrication dont mix so well, the old lubricant gets wrecked and whatever new lubricant is introduced does not last long before gumming up
the "protects" part is a thin film of residue that will bind up any fine mechanism, its better for crude gate hinges or things that are already rusted beyond oblivion
unfortunately people misuse WD40 and CRC 556
along with "3 in 1 oil" (the 1894 version consists of light spindle oil, citronella oil and corrosion inhibitor)
real lubricant hours
submerge or coat in Denatured alcohol
leave to dry so that the alcohol evaporates
maybe the alcohol left behind no film, anyway flush out the last of it
use what ever oil is thin enough to get into the nooks and cranny's whilst also being thick enough to handle the load
.eg of oil that's too thin
,table way oil ,sewing machine oil ,hair clipper oil ,air tool oil
