Any transport category airplane operated by a western nation is certified to safely operate away from any terrain along the planned route. In addition they’re certified to safely climb away from an engine failure after a predetermined go/no-go speed on the takeoff roll. As long as the engine failure is contained (this one was as the fire was successfully combated by the aircraft’s systems and there was no catastrophic to the fuselage or the superstructure of the wing) then the airplane should perform as advertised.
In short, with a competent crew and serviceable airframe (not engine, as this thread would have you believe) this jet was perfectly safe if in an emergency situation.
