difference in where you can bail in relative safety during an emergency. coasting a car is safer than coasting a plane, and there's almost always road for you to coast on whereas there's rarely a runway or even suitably large area clear of trees. the collateral damage during a plane crash is greater
there is also a vested interest for the government to have primary control over who can fly

The difference is in how the engine is used. Your continuous service rating in an aircraft is like 75-85% max output. A car's is much less.

Imagine you could only buy approved car parts signed off by your government.

Your mechanic needs to have a degree and years worth of experience and government approved papers to work on your car.

Any mods to your car have to be approved by the government.

You are always forced to follow the manufacturers guidelines on installing parts, any deviation from this could land you in legal trouble.

Wonder why its so expensive? Regulation.

Make no mistake here, the parts used in aircraft are of better quality than most cars. I've been a machinist for Airbus, Pilatus and Rheinmetall Defense, most of the cost is in the material used for specific parts. There are probably more than a hundred different types of steel, titanium and aluminium alloys in some aircraft. Also, you cant just leave something unfixed in your helicopter because it might just fucking crash because of it.

The aircraft size, stress and frequency of usage affects the sot of materials you need to use.
So a four seater flying at 200 kts during weekends is completely different from some airliner or fighter jet.
This isn't taken into account when ZOG pulls the rules out of its ass.

Not a requirement for Part 91 (private/personal aircraft), just a manufacturer's recommendation. Only commercial flights are legally compelled to comply with the manufacturer's maintenance schedule. And considering that 2000-3000 hours behind the wheel of a car is generally somewhere north of 50,000 miles, and that aircraft engines are generally run much harder AND are more critical to safety than car engines are, I don't find TBO recommendations to be that outrageous at all.

THIS factor I do take contention with. I attribute it to a combination of overregulation and lack of production volume (and personally I believe the latter is largely a consequence of the former). So basically what >>1615521 said.

Actually, that does sound pretty nice...
Japan does it a lot like that really, government regulation on street legal cars in the form of the every few years JCI inspection. Also, Japanese car insurance is so good, and Japanese drive so well, you rarely ever see shitboxes on the road. Cars are always clean and in good condition. One of the things I noticed while living over there.
