What is the bike parking situation like in midtown Manhattan?
I lived in NYC for several months before COVID and I’m moving back next week. Earlier I took the subway and didn’t notice any bike racks around my building (near Rockefeller center).
I’ll be staying in Harlem so I think I can just jet down Central Park and get to work.

it's not great. there are racks in or near that park/plaza thing on 50th between 6th and 7th. some racks scattered around on the avenues, not a lot besides sign posts on the side streets. i would use a good chain with an integrated lock and the "messenger" type ulock from kryptonite, the small orange one. you can ask about bringing your bike into the building, but desu that can sometimes be more hassle than it's worth - you will probably have to use the freight elevator which takes forever and stops running at 5pm, and depending on the office culture, it might be better that no one knows you commute by bike.

Thanks for the actual serious reply.
“Office culture” is not a problem, one of the VPs love doing bike commutes and we talk about bike shit every now and then. Also barely anyone’s in the office these days lol.

I’ll ask security about bringing in the bike but I’d also have to store it on our floor and I don’t think they’d like that.

I’ve also thought about buying an electric moped (that can be pedaled) sometime later this year but I don’t know where I’d charge it in NYC.
