If you insist on having one and using it in public, get liability insurance so when you get sued for causing injury to someone else when you crash, at least you won't be wrecked for life financially.
No insurance will save you from criminal prosecution for public endangerment though, better put aside a few hundred thousand dollars for a legal defense fund, too.
