Just depends on how you define a metro area. You need to have some dense neighborhoods, which are few and far between in California.

this is its mainstreet. i would guess that jc penny building is now a dollar store and has been for the past 20 years

Atlanta has terrible transit. I wouldn't live, or even really visit without a car. The best transit is in the Northeast corridor (DC to boston), Chicago, and medium sized west coast cities like SF or Portland. Everywhere else it ranges from mediocre to terrible.

Even driving in Atlanta is a nightmare with massive 10-lane freeways everywhere and Atlantans crossing in front of you.

san francisco is the 2nd most important city on the west coast after LA and is the anchor of a 7 million person region, its not even in the same ballpark as portland which has like a 2.5 million metro

yeah but considering its a 95% hispanic town with medium income of $11,000, it probably wasnt a jc pennys anytime past the 90's
