Hey /n/, any of you ever been a cager before? I feel like a lot of us at one point were
I grew up in the midwest and when I first got my license, my bike went straight into the garage. I remember I was very excited to drive everywhere. When I use to walk or bike to the nearest gas station only 4-5 blocks away, I would always drive there. And I would do it fast, showing off how cool I thought I was. Fuck, I even biked to my local park to play ball which was less than a 3 minute walk.
Anyhow, I remember one time with my dad we were driving and I saw a FUCKING cyclist. I lost my shit. My dad and I both were commenting that they should get on the fucking sIdeWaLk and get out of the way. Before aggressively passing the biker, I honked at him and even break checked him.
It wasn't until I moved to college that I started really biking again for transportation. I brought my car initially but after one month of getting tickets up the ass for parking, the next time my dad came to visit (they lived less than a 2 hour drive from me) came and picked it up with my mom. From that point on, I biked everywhere, to the store, friends house, work, rec, etc
and that's when I noticed how greedy and needy cagers are jesus to think I was a filthy cage. But it made me realize, we truly live in a society and most people don't even think about it. I wasn't particularly angry person back then nor am I now. But like nearly killing a man, I still think about how those actions lead to a lot of average people becoming complete psychopath when behind a wheel.
