Pro athletes, men and women who are competing for money, they need to win, so they are prepared to cripple their spines in order to shave that extra millisecond off their times. But normal average people who jsut want to get to work or enjoy the countryside, they don't need to worry about extra milliseconds, in fact if anything they should want to be as comfortable as possible, and those who are cycling to get fit, well it should be obvious to anyone that well built legs, strong heart and good recovery rates don't go well with a spastic backbone.
If you're not involved in actual racing, by that I mean real organized races against other competitors in the hope of winning a prize or justifying your sponsors faith in you, and not LARPing as a pro while riding around on your own decorated in adverts that you paid to display, then you need to think long and hard about riding position and the effects it will have on your posture.
You don't have to ride absolutely upright, but if your saddle is higher than your handlebars and you are not receiving a monthly cheque from various sponsors then you might possibly be a delusional retard who will end up cursing his own idiocy later in life.
