i went the train route through my hometown in the am
rode through the sierras all day
rode through nevada desert all night long
got off the train and ...wow ...the shit i saw happen behind walmart in a matter of 8 hours

No, you can't. Unless you're somewhere bumfuck nowhere, where there's little reason to stop for, too, there's a load of restrictions, legal and/or practical, when and where you can stop and get out of your vehicle.

Canadian Pacific used rail barges to connect isolated areas around Kootenay Lake BC. The red area in the center right is the barge. The loco is going down the short bridge from the barge to the shore. The rails would get partly covered at the shoreline when the lake level rose due to runoff filling the lake.

I found out it wasn't a bridge, it was a ramp. The main line tracks were laid down into the water, and the ramp would roll down those on submerged freight car trucks until it was the right height for the barge
