I've done that.

Post an ACTUAL picture of your bike. I'm curious about the damage. And I really don't think you fucked up getting that. Yes it fits the practical niche of bikes that cost ten times less, but it's an excellent niche and an excellent bike.

For avoiding the crash in future, make sure you brace your arms when you're braking, to counteract your weight shifting forward. Don't go phobic of your front brake, it's by far the stronger one and necessery for stopping quickly. But learn to use it without going otb.
Your carbon handlebars can be extremely cheap to replace. Replace them with aluminium ones. IMO this is an upgrade. The brake lever likely isn't broken. If it's just scuffed, all you did is add charm to the bike.
You're doing fine anon. Just fine.

Hell it looks like you even have lockon grips, so taking them off is going to be easy.
If you don't, you can either purrprpbbbpbpbpb them off with an air compressor, or you have to cut them off. This again, if you cut them off, is a good opportunity to upgrade to some nicer (and colourful) grips to add some charm to your bike. I recommend ourys or silicon like redmonkey karv.

Everything else just fucking unbolts and can be slid off.

Even if you did damage your brake lever, it's not an expensive part.

have you bicycled before getting this one? like learning an instrument, its usually a good idea to start with something youre not scared to damage until youve increased confidence. Everyone makes mistakes and crashes, especially when still learning the muscle memory and balance

the trick is to go through that process on a $80 craigslist bike that you throw in the bin when youre ready to move on

Why would you replace your handlebars so soon? Also don't feel bad about buying hydraulic disc brakes, they're definitely worth it for any kind of offroad riding.

Get some short barends for added hand positions, OP. Install them between the grips and shifter/brake assemblies. Biggest thing for flat bar comfort in my opinion. They allow for a neutral grip and you can even shift and brake with your pinky and ring fingers. Highly recommend. I don't think I can go back to comfortably riding a flat bar bicycle without them. Complete game changer.

Aero bars don't really accomplish the same thing as >>1629467 . Innerbarends provide a neutral grip while maintaining leverage and control over a veriety of terrain. Arerobars are for getting aero on the straights and do not provide much leverage or control. Also aerobars would probably be very dangerous if one were to go over the handlebars or crash headfirst into someone.

Well, you see, we invented these amazing disc brakes that work slightly better in torrential rain and only cost 3x more than v brakes. Unfortunately, besides the ruined ride feel from the required stiffened fork, and the constant horrible squeeling sounds, mechanical disc brakes also feel like dogshit, and secretly don't work why better than v brakes on 99% of cases. Hell, they usually can't even lock up a wheel when you're TRYING to.
But thankfully our benevolent bicycle industry introduced hydraulic disc to "improve" lever feel. Now riders can be totally disconnected from their braking system, with no pesky physical feedback from the brake itself. With this advanced and totally worthwhile extra expense and difficulty, new riders and old pros alike can fling themselves over their carbon handlebars with a simple flick of brake lever, using only one finger.

its operator error 100%, and not for a lack of feedback.
also, go ahead and tell me what "feedback" for a brake is. there is feedback from a tire, from a suspension, there is no "feedback" from a brake. you can feel maybe the unevenness of your rim, but thats not the feedback that helps you brake properly.

what you dont get is, that hydraulic discs are far, far better to dose. guess why people can easily ride down a hill on the front wheel with hydraulics, and not with rim brakes.

you think feedback = force to apply
its not. stop being a hamfisted idiot and you will have a better experience with hydraulic discs in 100% of the cases.
