How many years do you ride your bike until you buy a new one?
We all know that modern bikes aren't as sturdy as they used to be.

Mine didn't break. But the bearings are fucked and the hub is bend. It doesn't ride as good as it used to. Also the fork is fucked as well. It still "rides" though. I still think it's a waste to scrap it. And selling it would be too embarrassing for me, as it's really badly used.

I've been riding the same bike for 32 years, still works like new. Just make sure to change the oil once a week and keep the springs lubes and she'll be making more power than stock long after the paint has been peeled off by passing migrants.

no you were a KID and time seemed to pass slower for you then and now you are dumb and don't know how to maintain your own bike so you THINK it's low quality. Learn to fix your shit and your bikes will last a lifetime.

Had my bike since 1992 and I have no intention whatsoever of getting a new one. Bike frames last for decades, of course tyres and inner tubes need replacing from time to time, as do cables and even components. I bought my bike for £650 in june 1992, I estimate that I have spent another £200 - £300 during the intervening years on tyres, tubes, cables and other maintenance and minor repairs, although it's probably not that much as I kept the bike very well maintained and regularly strip and service it myself.

If you can't make something made of metal last for a couple of decades you need shooting.

Ages, the only bikes I bought as an adult that I don't have any more were either stolen or given away.

My oldest bike was made in the 1970s, my newest bike is about almost a decade old now. My other bikes are late 90s/early 00s.

Are those bars original? They look aftermarket, the threaded headset and old style cantis date it but it looks like a comfy allrounder.

The bars and headset were added by the shop where I bought the bike, I've since come to learn that a lot of these had different specs, not just with things like handlebars, saddles and seat posts but even brakes and gears. the frame was one of a small run that were built with Ritchey supertubes that year, something to do with problems at their usual factory.

It's a wonderful bike, very comfy and surprisingly light and supple, good on or off road.

It's Ritchey logic tange prestige steel, never weighed it though. It's certainly lighter than some aluminum bikes friends have owned over the years.

Figured. I think I remember seeing a version of this bike advertised in a magazine back in the mid-late 90s, but way tf out of my price range at the time. Didn't understand why someone would pay that much for a steel rigid until I felt the weight of some of them.

Based. My oldest bike is my bmx, from about 91, though I haven’t ridden it in almost 25 years now.
I had a GT timberline back then, but sold it back then. I now ride much nicer 90s era full sue MTB tho
And 90s era road bikes
