I have nothing but love for the great nation of Germany but being the most beautiful city in a country that was firebombed into oblivion is not that great a distinction.

Still, Hamburg is a tremendous place and I have enjoyed my time there.

I don't think the Alster lake is a bomb crater, pretty sure it was there for centuries. Same with the Elbe shores and the harbor, albeit not in today's shape. Architecture is not the only thing that matters. If we went by architecture only, Hamburg would be average.

hamburganon here i apologise for the hate but you are still wrong. hamburg also has viaducts in eppendorf/hoheluft and elevated sections all over the city, especially in the "walddörfer" area and most of the circle line (U3), while berlin pretty much only has the U1 between warschauer straße and gleisdreieck, and some itty bitty section of the U2 in pankow
