It’s got to be the components, every single fucking low-mid range mountain bike is 30-35lbs, doesn’t matter if it’s full suspension, doesn’t matter if it’s “enduro”, “downcountry”, “trail”, carbon or aluminum or even steel, hell even rigid mountain bikes are clocking in at or near 30lbs. It’s got to be the tires, drivetrain and cockpit component pool that literally everybody is sharing from that causes such similar weights throughout drastically different bikes

Mountain bikes in general have been getting a lot heavier even at the high end, a lot of components and tech to squeeze in there, heavy humongous cassettes, heavy dropper seatposts, and then you’ve got the low end stuff like forks wheels tires that’s just designed to be heavier than other options

Because the also steel frame is bigger, remember modern MTBs have been getting longer over the years. Those unnecessary 2.6 inch tyres and just spec'ing the lowest tier of components available. Also, that moto style of handle bar, fucking why?

$1500-2000 is solidly mid-class for hardtails, a mid level full suspension would be $2500-3000, those $750 bikes you see are not quite mountain bikes
