I have a dream.
A dream of living in a small/medium town and being able to hop a train to the city on weekends.

Where could I realize this dream outside of Japan?
Currently in burgerland and our rail network is awful.

look at the regional rail lines going out of nyc, chicago, dc, and philadelphia. there are at least a dozen good neighborhoods like you describe. however, it will be expensive if you want to live somewhere nice AND small enough to walk to the station

No, I made a thread asking where I can live in a nice town, and take a train to a nice city outside of Japan because I'm not a weeb.

Suburban Illinois. Look at Highland Park, Elgin, Woodstock or Naperville. All have quite frequent Metra trains to go to Chicago and are relatively comfy

If you want to live in NJ and take PATCO into Philly, it's only gonna cost ya maybe $750-900/mo+ $5.20 for the round trip on the train.
Anything after PATCO, like the MFL or the trolley will only cost ya $2.50, but there are many free interchanges between all systems
I grew up this way and it's actually my retirement/money saving plan to go back.

PATCO goes all the way West as far as 15th, so Old City, Center City, South Philly, the Gayborhood, and Callowhill are all reachable by just that.
MFL goes diagonally up past Fishtown and into West Philly where I live now. BSL takes ya to real South Philly, and the trollies will take ya from Center City West literally all the way out of Philadelphia herself into Darby and Sharon HIll or some shit. (This is also an option, but who wants to live in Chester?)
Regional Rail is a pain and I'll never take it. Choose something in Jersey if you want reliability with PATCO

I think we have a real problem with up and down travel. But it aint bad at all.
They all run to the point I've never needed to even glance at a schedule
