>>1644600I never stripped an entire bike down before, but I'm going to use this bike as a kind of education in bike maintenance and repair.
The plan is to at least attempt to sort everything out, from the frame to the cables, bearings, drive train etc. The bike was dirt cheap but is completely original and I think could be quite a nice bike when done, I rode it home from the train station the other day and it was totally fine, although I could tell the front wheel hub definitely needs attention but for 32 year old bike not bad at all, the previous owner generally looked after it really well.
So yeah, that's what I'm going to do starting with the frame, then the hubs/bottom bracket and bearings, then I'll look at the gears, brakes, levers, I'm really excited to do this, I started buying some basic tools and now I'm looking for things like grease, degreaser, rust inhibitor, wax and all that stuff.
Is there a difference between the kind of grease you use for packing bearings and grease for things like threads, stems and seat posts?
Also what's the best way to clean the inside of a frame prior to adding rust inhibitor?
