i got to thinking about how it'd be cool to have a walking path that stretched from the atlantic to the pacific across the best looking parts of the country, so that you could walk the entire distance and stay in the shade, out of the rain, maybe some kind of natural or inexpensive heating or cooling, etc. some areas would need to be steep, i guess, but maybe find a way to keep it relatively flat like ramps that build up slowly in elevation and so you barely notice it.
every few miles there could be a place to refill your water bottle, vending machines, washing machines and dryers, hooks to hang a hammock on and get some sleep, and maybe some restaurants every 50 miles or so.
you could do the entire trip with a bit of cash, a backpack with your hammock and a change of clothes. no need for maps or phones or gps. maybe have some panic buttons along the wall for emergencies.
that's in a perfect world where we spend our collective money on cool things, and asshole murderers don't exist.
does anything like this exist in the world, maybe on smaller scales like a 100 mile walking tunnel?
