A lot of that money is specifically in liability insurance too, I haven't seen recent statistics but it already accounted for like $200k of a new 172's price back in the '90s so it's probably more like $300k now.

That doesn't make any sense. Car crashes happen many times more frequently than plane crashes and yet car insurance is affordable for everyone. Also the manufacturer isn't liable when a retard gets behind the wheel and causes an accident. Why would Cessna be liable for a pilot doing something retarded?

This is not correct. The cost of certification is what drives the cost of aircraft. Demonstrating compliance with the FAR increases the price of the plane by at least three times. The paperwork alone is probably $100k for that Cessna 172.

Car crashes happen quite a bit but they are almost always attributed to user error. People drive a lot and are comfortable around cars and so when crashes haopen the driver is blamed. Planes crashing is a nightmare for a lot of people and a result of that is that people are more likely to blame the equipment than a pilot who didn't do a good enough job checking their plane was ready to go, and so plane makers get sued. Sometimes it is justified, like boeing getting sued over the 737 max, but for companies that produce GA aircraft, it's common for a lot of their planes being involved in deadly crashes due to some chucklefuck who only flies once or twice a month screwing up balancing cargo or something

That is not very impressive. The reason redline is so low is because of the 70 year old design and fixed timing. I mean manual fuel control in the Year of our LORD 2021 for $400k is fucking ridiculous. However, Lycoming and Continental have certified designs that are fully amortized. Why would they design something new and go through the whole expense of certification when they can milk what they have? The technology has stagnated because of regulatory capture. If Garmin had never entered the avionics market, GA would all still be using steam gauges.

I've done enough flight simming to know that all the plane's systems are pretty easy to use once you learn them, even in the largest airliners. In fact I'm sure it's even easier in real life since your vision isn't limited by a monitor that you have to drag around with your mouse to see everything in.

Get with the times gramps. Modern flight sims have nearly 100% accurate systems and flight model simulation. With the right peripherals, it's pretty much indistinguishable from the real thing. Even ATC is simulated perfectly if you fly on VATSIM.

I fucking hate people without ADS-B so much bros. All the VFR departures/arrivals in my airport go through a 2nm wide channel. It's only 2nm wide because on the left is another GA airport's airspace and on the right is one of the largest international airports in the world. So we get this very narrow passage between the two and usually it's not a problem but if you try to fly on a Sunday or something there are about a billion nigger experimentals out who for some reason are all painted in camoflauge colors

Aircraft certified parts cost a fortune. Avionics can run you by tens of thousands of dollars a piece. The cost of an airplane is the sum of its parts, if you have detailed maintenance records and an intact journey log the plane becomes more valuable.

Obviously a plane can move around and might find its way into the US, but if you were selling general aviation types with 200 mile range in New Zealand or something, surely you could get the price right down because realistically you've only got liability under NZ law, not US law.
