1) figure out your riding style
2) figure out your sitbone width (many bike shops have tools for this so they can try to sell you 1 of the 3 saddles they have in stock)
3) try out a few saddles that match the results of 1 & 2
4) realize that if your sitbones are what hurts you might need to HTFU for a few weeks while your bones harden

get a hard saddle, you will suffer for a week or two, after that it will be perfect, trust me, i had padded saddles and no matter what you do, you get numb on longer rides, it is just not worth it, with a hard one that you sit only with your ass bones you will never feel numb

This is correct, your sitbones sink into the padding and the center pushes up into your perineum since soft tissue isn't nearly as hard as bone. Retards who swear by heavily padded saddles for road riding are retards, but we simply don't know what kind of riding OP is doing, because OP is a fag and a full blown retard frogposter.

I agree that "granny padding" doesn't work for longer rides and a harder saddle is needed. But you have to find the right amount of padding that works for you.
I settled with the Selle SMP TRK (non gel). It's great, I ride without daipers and without pain. Looks a little weird but I don't give a fuck

The trend that all the padding of the saddle has to be removed to be sown in the daiper pants is so absurd

I agree with what you're saying but recently I bought a pair of diaper pants and although they have relatively thin padding compared to granny saddles, they're a game changer for real.
I don't know why they work so well compared to just having a thick padded saddle, or a saddle cover, but they're pretty nice.

It's most similar to the way your tibia and fibula develop micro-fractures when you begin running. In most cases your bones can heal the small amount of damage in a reasonable amount of time while also enhancing the structure for the additional stress. If you push too hard (like trying to bike 100 km a day while untrained) either your bones or muscles will typically give.
After 2-3 weeks of regular riding you will stop noticing your ass pain if you have the right saddle. If you notice groin/genital numbness you have the wrong saddle because you are putting weight on your soft tissues rather than your bones.

Unironically yes. Even if you don't ride in diapers. At most a mm or two of foam padding + leather cover. Properly made bare carbon saddles are by far the comfiest saddles I've ever tried.

They aren't rock hard but flex. If you have a rock hard saddle you have to add padding to it because it'll eat your ass from road vibrations. Flexy carbon saddle doesn't need any because it doesn't punish your ass nearly as much.

And moving the little padding to chamois just works. I don't know why or how exactly but it's much comfier than no chamois + similarly padded saddle.

it's because the padding moves with you, instead of you moving over/into the padding. i'm a brooksfag mostly but i use wtb saddles on my work/lockup bike. i've been wanting to try a bare carbon saddle but can't seem to find one wide enough

It's a lot of fun to meme about ass callouses but our bodies do adjust to the stresses we put them under. It's the same reason training makes you faster. Doing something physical you haven't done before, or in a long time, will fuck you up. Be it DOMS, small stress factures in your bones, or something else. Do that same thing over a couple of weeks/months without overdoing it and your body gets used to it.

I've been training my ass by not wearing my chamois on 50km rides with a barely-padded saddle. By the end of it it my hipbones feel raw and pointy like they're trying to dig their way out of my skin.

Leather saddles are overrated. They aren't bad, they work great for some people, but not so great for others, and plastic saddles can be just as good or even better without the fuss of dealing with leather.

I experience some numbness when aggressively positioned in the drops, only that position. What's the best saddle to combat this? I've heard nothing beats an ISM for such an issue, but I'm hesitant to spend so much on a saddle that may not suit me. This is good advice.
I did this myself not long ago and I could not be happier. Went from a selle royal soft hammock-type saddle to a rigid road saddle that matches my sitbone width, which I measured in my usual riding position. Took a while to get used to, maybe 2 weeks, but now it feels perfectly comfortable.

I had issues with my bike seat comfort. Went from really stiff seats to really plush seats and then finally back to like a bontrager aeolus comp. Ended up really adjusting my bike fit and my saddle issues went away basically. So in the end i probably wasted a lot of time and it came down to my bike fit. I also bought a really nice pair of pro bibs too that may have helped as well rather than using cheapo ones.

modern saddles do that as well and don't require hours of break in to get there, and don't have to be babied if it's damp out. I like my berthoud saddles (brooks not so much) but for really long days I'm happier on a pro stealth or terry flx

Expect it to take at least a month with 5+ rides a week, if you ride less it will take longer. Make one tiny change, ride it a couple times, then decide if you are going to keep it or put it back. Then move On to the next thing.

You can still buy repros of selle rolls, regal, turbo, corsa and concor. All classic racing saddles. Many in leather.

I just don't see why you need it to be leather though. Classic looking sure. Leather, eh. Sprung leather is worth pursuing. Otherwise, just why? Why not also, but why?

That’s how roadies ride saddles with no cutout, if you don’t sink in at all you can just sit in a way where your gooch doesn’t touch the saddle and just hold it with core strength
