I was watching a youtuber go more than 186mph on the autobahn, about the same speed of a high speed train, and it got me thinking: will this be the norm in the future?
(1) EVs can accelerate and reach top speeds much faster than ICEs so it's easier to maintain a high average speed.
(2) Roads are cheaper to build and maintain.
(3) Lower cost of travelling when: [1] vehicles become a service and most people don't own them, [2] there is no need for drivers and [3] the general cost of charging being lower than refuelling.
(4) Less hassle and waiting time to start your trip than other modes of transport.
All this depends on 2 things that I can think of that may not happen or be possible but at least seems like is: (1) if highways are reserved exclusively for non-human drivers and (2) 5G can make autonomous driving at such speeds safe.
