>>1650906>80s BR was run down and had only a fraction of the passengers we have today.Yeah because the government deliberately underfunded it because they had a long-term strategy of flogging it to their mates in business when the time came.
Also, the rise in passenger numbers is directly as a response to the increase in population and then the cost of living increase in major urban centres. House prices are at an all time high. No longer can people afford to live in the city they work in and nor can they drive thanks to the huge increase in the volume of cars on the road and the traffic, congestion charges, lack of parking and the huge increase in time this all takes. The first lockdown sent road usage back to the same level it was at when BR was privatised and the roads felt incredibly empty. This is why commuter towns are on the rise, not because BR was privatised ya moron.
Not to mention privatisation was an abject failure and is being replaced by a better system.
Not to mention that railways play a role in society that makes them more than just business.
Not to mention the Bullet Train wouldn't exist if JR wasn't nationalised at the time.
Not to mention privatised railways everywhere but the US STILL don't act like a true private business and rely on government money in a way that others don't. i.e you want a railway line built? taxpayer pays for it. Why shouldn't they also profit from it too?
How are you still such a sucker for big business PR garbage in this day and age? You are spouting utter goy nonsense
