What’s your preferred tire size for gravel riding? I had a Surly Pack Rat that I started riding on some dirt 4x4 trails here in the deserts of Cali Wali. Started on 650B x 42 parimoto slicks, then I tried out the Ultradynamico meme tires in 650B x 48. I ended up selling the bike because I felt like it was a little overbuilt and the head tube angle was too steep, which made the steering kind of sketchy without a front load, plus I started to enjoy riding my old Surly Pacer on the trails, it’s significantly lighter and faster and I like caliper brakes better than cantis. I’m running 700x32 GravelKing SS tires but now that it’s hot and dry I’m regularly having to dismount in sand traps which I almost never had to do with the 650s. I can either squeeze like a 700x35 or 36 tire or buy a 650b wheel set and some extra long reach brakes. I still have my old parimotos in the garage... anyway.
TLDR: what’s your choice of tire for going fast on gravel without getting bogged down in the deep shit?
