>>1654723Rode one for years, got it not long after a bike upgrade. Liked it at first. Got rid of the ass pain. Later as I got to know my bike, I started chasing mystery handling issues. It felt like it had a mind of its own sometimes, the rear would give me these brief scares like it wanted to launch my ass in the air or fling me from side to side and decided at the last instant not to do so. Not fun on steep descents in fast moving traffic. So I tried to find the source. I autistically balanced my wheels. No help. Played with my body position. No help. I decided it must be because of a subtle but audible irregularity in the drag in my freehub as it went around. Ripped it apart, cleaned it, re-lubed it with a different lube that some weight weenies people said was better than the factory lube. Literally no difference at all. Asked the shop guys, they said it was fine. I decided they were incompetent. Emailed the manufacturer, they said it's fine, I decided they were covering up a design flaw and started planning a wheelbuild with something that would definitively eliminate the problem. I eventually settled on Onyx because I heard they have the least drag.
At some point just for shits and giggles I put the original ass hatchet that came with my bike and went for my usual ride (25 miles of rolling hills). You might guess what I found: it completely eliminated the problem. It introduced another problem with was crotch numbness but I figured that was solvable, and it was, I bought a conventional saddle that wasn't a cheap piece of shit.
As an unexpected bonus my speed went up, which is weird because I didn't feel like I had increased my speed, but the strava times don't lie. Either it's improved my power output or the lack of scary behavior means I'm more confident on the descents even if I'm not consciously aware of it. Also it saved me the expense of a new wheelset although I'll probably build one anyway because upgrade-itis.
tl'dr fuck leather saddles
