>>1653031>This can all be solved through economy of scale and developments in more efficient engine techAlleviated, not solved. It'll always cost more to make and it'll always need insane amounts of fuel. Sadly, the people who made the few that were made already knew what they were doing. There's room for improvements, but without a fundamental breakthrough (nowhere near in sight), no giant improvements are to be made.
High-bypass turbofans suck for supersonic operation, low-bypass should help a bit, but it'll remain tiny and thirsty.
>>1653031>nobody on the ground can hear itSomething tells me they'd have done that if it worked. But they didn't.
>Why would there need to be any changes to runwaysNo changes, but the wing designs for supersonic flight suck at low speed, thus leading to very high angle of attack and absurd takeoff/ landing speed. Another of those problems that won't just magically go away.
>What time loss?Get to airport, checkin, security check, queue up for boarding, boarding, taxi, taxi again, wait for baggage, get to where you really need to go.
Easily 4h in the total journey, if not more. So if you can make the actual flight in 5h rather than 8 it's still a very long flight and that day is still over, thus people prefer flying first class for longer and less.
