Grid streets are straight and long. Ideal for going even faster. Speed bumps only add to the noise since your buddies are accelerating hard between them.
They're car enthusiasts, even if Walmart was within walking distance through whatever utopian urban planning you fantasise about, they'd still be playing around.
Suburbs are inherently car dependant. They're designed to be away from the city (and it's amenities) in exchange for greater living space for each household. Want to live in a car free neighbourhood? Okay but understand to achieve that everything has to be packed together. That means apartment blocks and small living spaces. Some people like that kind of life, good for them.
But you're here whining about how wounded you are because the urban planners didn't make a perfect neighbourhood with no disadvantages while providing no solution. Everything is a compromise and a trade off.
This is what 'everything within walking distance' looks like. Instead of car noises, now you've got to listen to your adjacent neighbours from six different directions.
