I've been wanting to get a bike since I live in a mountainous area and I think it would be fun to bike around them. I know nothing about bikes and I don't plan on doing any extreme mountain biking, just riding along ski paths.

My question is, would a cheap Canadian Tire bike be suitable for this? I checked online at local bike shops and the price difference is enormous. I'm talking $250 for bike like pic related while bike's at local shops run easily $700-$800 and up.
