>>1664615"cagetroll" here. I love the city, unlike you. what I don't like is classist humblebragging by trust fund kids who use car-free living as a lifestyle flex, to go along with the obligatory 4 year degree in wow it's fucking nothing from an absurdly expensive private college, followed by a couple years bumming around europe or maybe asia "discovering yourself", but it doesn't matter because their superficial traits (pale skin, light hair, pronouncing fiance "fin-ANCE" (first syllable is what a fish has) rather than FINE-ance (first syllable rhymes with The Nanny's surname, etc) nets them a high paid job because they're a "good culture fit for us".
they show up in a neighborhood they never even thought about until last Tuesday and, since they've literally never heard anyone say "no" to them, EVER, they assume that they know how to "solve" the city (based on some regurgitated urbanist memes from, you guessed it, a white guy from fucking MINNESOTA who lives nowhere near any city), and they run around going "just build more bro, like, supply and demand maaaan, haven't you guys ever considered just buying more money? oh btw BLM ok? so like if we built a hyperloop here you people wouldn't cling to your cars and your rent stabilized leases, market rate for market urbanists bro, you probably have never taken an economics class unlike me"
then when there's pushback and the locals who have been living in the area for decades cite the numerous reasons why you're a moron, you go "ugh, if you don't like the city you should leave". then you call up your buddies at HPD who can pull strings in the TPT and you make the suggestion into more of a court order, and then when all of us are driven out you go "oh man, this neighborhood was muy authentico until it GENTRIFIED, maaaaan" as if there were no conscious decisions made by anyone that could have CAUSED the gentrification let alone your own actions
tl;dr kill yourself colonist
