Here's the healthy way to ride:
>Always keep on top of the gear. Never ride a gear you're struggling to push around. >try to ride as smoothly and evenly as possible >don't throw the bike around. Don't sprint. Stand up sometimes on climbs to stretch >some rides, don't go hard at all Think about your knees like a thin stick. If you were going to use that stick to push a rock, and the rock was too heavy, the stick would break. But if the rock was light enough, or the stick was strong enough, the stick would move the rock. Your knees are not pushing the gear, but if your legs are struggling to, the knees will take the brunt of it. That's why you need to always keep on top of a gear.
