After a highway is removed, a neighborhood gentrifies and then the poorer residents (usually PoC get pushed out and end up further from jobs which they then must commute to).Unironically I think this is the point, the cynical politicians pushing new urbanism are clearly aware that crime is one of the biggest obstacles to people moving back in to dense areas, so they do want to price these people out but they can’t get made if they claim they’re doing “racial justice” by keeping them out.
