Chinese carbon road bike build

No.1660958 View ViewReplyOriginalReport
I managed to build a 29er hardtail MTB as a total novice and now I look to a new project. I want to build a sub 5kg carbon bike. The plan is a Chinese carbon frame, Chinese gears, but Shimano brakes.

1) Is there any disadvantage to a single chainring for casual cycling? I don't find range to be an issue on my MTB, the key thing was nailing the correct chainring teeth number. Lack of a front derailleur saves weight & complexity.

2) Disc or rim? Rim weighs less so I'm leaning toward that.
