My point is exactly what I said. Yes, wider and lower pressure is more comfy, hence why I go with 28mms at around 105psi on my steel road bike while going with 23mms at around 117psi on my fredsled.

Not gonna argue, since not a roadfag, but from a physics standpoint it makes no sense. Are there any scientific arguments for that? Low rolling resistance, being hight PSI and narrow slicks, should be faster on smooth paved. Anything interesting to read on the subject?

Im not so sure. The fact that the tour de france has been won for the last 10 years or so on 25mm tires might indicate that in a general good roads and climbing conditions that 25 is fastest.

The last 2 winners of Paris-Roubaix won it on 28mm tires but that's a weird race over cobblestones.

Egan Bernal just won the 2021 Giro D'Italia rolling on Continental Competition 25mm tires fitted on a Pinarello F12 Dogma XLite with direct mount rim brakes

You are not riding a bike on perfect smooth tarmac. On a airport runway the 23s are probably faster.

On a 100 mile ride over varied terrain the 25s would be faster. You get more confident you aren't going to dump it out on a downhill descent curve so you end up going faster.

no they are literally better on descents for everybody because they have a wider contact patch which allows you to lean more.

The biggest difference is quality of the rubber so if you are trying to run panaracer 23s vs Conti 5k 25s or Michelin Power 5ks or whatever you are going to lose out as those more modern rubber compounds are faster.

I think Conti is still available in all the best compounds in 23mm but I don't think any other major maker still is.
