For weight weinies I see it being alright. Many comp frames are already under-weight and need additional weight added. However, ultra-low weight bikes can be really fun to ride. For the general user I can't see it being used: too much $$$ for less reliability.

I think the appeal is super cheap, light, and simple levers - then some actually good plug and play hydraulic disc. creates a situation where everything is compatible with everything and no more cables, eventually no more wires. just slap them on and you're ready to go

really there would be no requirement for a lever shape at all. could be a stop button if you want

I love the simplicity of an old fashioned bike with cantilever brakes, the one I ride for commuting is 32 years old and is on it's second set of cables, but as we all know there is an army of utter imbeciles who will queue up to throw their cash at anything they see in an advertisement.

It's so hard for me to fathom, the mindset of a modern consumerbot, it's like they enjoy being milked, as though paying more for less, in fact paying repeatedly for less is something to celebrate. Patents are supposed to be new ideas. Brake-by-wire is not new in any way. It's been used in cars a long time ago, and there are plenty of discussions on forums about when we'll get brake-by-wire. Albeit some of it might be in a bit sarcastic tone, but still. It's just yet another patent that should've never been approved and would not stand in court if tested.

But the whole point of patents is to prevent new entrants to a market by filing a ton of bogus patents that wouldn't stand but would take a ton of resources to get voided and to protect your truly innovative ideas.
