Disc brakes allow for better rim design in terms of aero. The fact is that disc brakes are more aero than rim brakes.
And if you had ever actually ridden a TT bike you'd know they suck ass in braking. Most of them have under the BB rear brakes which are notorious for being shit, quite a few of the top end models have fully integrated front brakes, also notorious for being shit. On top of that they also often have shitty cable routing for aero gains making the brakes even worse. Disc brakes on TT bikes can be easily routed fully internally without loss of brake feel thanks to hydraulics. And they've got a lot more power than shitty brakes on carbon rims.
And if you'd ever ridden a triathlon or a TT you'd know they're usually not just on a single straight road where you push as many watts as you can for one hour. Every single turn on the course is lost seconds for the rim brakes.
