Just put a set of these on my mountain bike. I used hairspray and they slid on pretty easily. However they haven't stopped slipping after a couple hours. I have plans to ride tomorrow and I don't want them to be sliding around all day. Is there any way to make the hairspray dry faster?

I tried alcohol yesterday. Left it on overnight and they were just as slippery when I woke up. That's why I tried hairspray.

Idk maybe you have some contaminant on the grips or bars, alcohol dries fast and shouldn't leave them slippery

Maybe just take them off, clean the inside of the grips and outside of the bars with alcohol to remove contaminant, wait for them to dry, then either shove them on dry or with a bit of alcohol or water

I used hand sanitizer alcohol gel to mount my foam grip. Worked fantastically.
I can't say how that would translate to rubber grips.

Gotcha. I made this thread after the second hairspray attempt with way less spray. Hoping when I check them in a couple hours they'll be pretty stable and won't slide around on the bars.

I usually do, but I wanted to give these a try. My friend used them and they seemed way softer since they don't have that plastic inner sleeve that lock-ons have.

if they are still slipping go ahead and buy a can of gorilla or similar brand spray adhesive and spray it inside then stick it on.

Realize that means you will have to cut them off with a utility knife and a mild solvent if you ever want to remove them.

you could probably also find double sided tape and wrap the handlebar in that then slide on the grips and it wouldn't be as severe. But I had already typed out the spray adhesive thing

I used to use these but then i switched to thin lockons. I found them too squishy for my tastes, the lock ons had a more direct feel.

I always installed them dry. Thoroughly clean the bars, clean the inside of the grips with soapy water, let them dry, then push em on slow and steady. use compressed air if you have it. they never slipped much for a long time. if they start slipping its usually because theres little bits of rubbed off rubber between the grip and the bars so either remove and clean everything or buy new ones and reinstall clean.
the key word here is "clean"

hairspray has an oily film so it takes longer to dry off
you may also have used too much, take it off while its still wet and wipe the excess off the handle bar, hammer grip back on
when applying grips with methylated spirits or isopropyl alcohol its best to only apply a small amount to less that 1/4th of the grips diameter along at least half its length
to take grips off I lean the bike on its side and use a zip tie to wick the solvent down in between the grip and handle bar
