When I was a kid, rail signals (freight; North America; Union Pacific tracks) would turn "off" when they weren't in use, only turning red if a train had just passed, and green if a train was approaching. Nowadays, I see this one signal blink yellow all the time if it's not in the red or green cycle. Is this a change in rail signal standards, or is it simply malfunctioning?
