Women only coaches present a very interesting set of questions for transit design. They definitely work as a solution to the fact that women are more vulnerable on public transit, as they’re more likely to be targeted and less able to defend themselves. So if these cars get implemented, what’s to stop some crazy homeless guy from walking onto the women’s car? There would have to be special enforcement for that particular car, which begs the question, why not just have that extra enforcement for the entire train? If shit starts going down on the men’s train is the women’s guard going to do something? I dunno. I see no reason not to try it but I just know someone’s gonna find a way to fuck it up somehow.
